Named for Thomas Williams, frontier settler, who with his four sons, and two sons-in-law served in the 1826 Fredonian Rebellion.  **Thomas received a Mexican land grant dated March 24, 1829, for one league on the Angelina River in what is now Rusk County. He settled his family and cultivated land there; the area became known as Williams Settlement.**

LIBERTY, TEXAS (Smith County). Liberty is on Farm Road 135 a mile south of Arp and north of Troup in southeastern Smith County. Kickapoo Creek runs through the vicinity, which is part of the Good Omen oilfield. The area was originally in the 1835 Benijah Lafferty Survey.

SINCLAIR CITY, TEXAS. Sinclair City is on Kickapoo Creek and State Highway 135, just north of Troup and south of Arp in the Good Omen oilfield in southeastern Smith County. It was originally on the line between the Benijah Lafferty and Maria Gertrudis Henriquez surveys.
